Ecalante

I was in the school newspaper today! We have Maxwell Magazine, which is run by the students and has typical articals about school and strikes and pizza. However, this is the second issue of our paper. For the entire year. :) So, there are, on average, about 3 to 4 papers every year. At most. And out 'magazine' is about 6 pages, with size 16 font. But, they arrived today. And though it sounds like I am kindof making fun of our little paper, I am very proud of it. I have both issues. I read it cover to cover. Because my classmates don't have a journalism class and don't get any extra merit from a university by saying they were the editor of such a paper. But my classmates did this because they wanted to. And I think that's rather admirable. Anyways, back to me. There was an atricle written by an Alessandro in the 4th Liceo Scientifico Tecnologico, who I most likely know. Because I am in the 3rd year, and I gave a talk to their class about being an american at their about a month or two into my trip. I talk to some of the people from that class sometimes, just bumping into them in the hall. But, I dont know may people's names, so I can't really put a face to the name at the moment.

But the article was about racism and differences between races and their languages and culture. Because Italy is thining about passing a new law about foreign students, because recently Italy has aquired a lot of immigrants. So, the law is to segregate the schools because the forgieners don't speak Italian. The boy who wrote this doesn't agree.

And here is the part where I come in, Come farebbe un professore a spiegare l'italiano a persone che hanno lingue diverse?
Which meant: How can a professor explain in italian to people who have a different language? Isn't it simple enough to combine them with the other italians?Won't they learn the language faster? An example is the girl from the United States who has arrived at our school is ecalante ( literally translates into better than fantastic. I'm not kidding, I asked Angelo). In two months she was talking italian well enough to be able to understand and talk.

He thinks that foreigners would learn italian better if the schools stay mixed anyways. And I agree. Though I think he was exaggerating how well my Italian was at two months, it helps his case to exaggerate a little and I'm not going to deny it for the article's sake.

But I was really...honored to be in the newspaper. I never have been before. And I am extreamly flattered that someone decribed me as being better than fantastic.
